How a midwife who has attended 400+ births got a website that does her justice

Custom web design and illustration for Laura Sola Matrona, midwife personal brand

The starting point:

Laura Sola is a midwife, breastfeeding consultant, mental health and perinatal nurse specialist, and doula.

She has supported home births independently since 2016, based in Zaragoza: over 400 births, more than 250 of them at home.

She already had a website, but it was outdated. It no longer reflected who she was or the services she was offering.

And there was a more pressing problem: messages from her contact form weren’t reaching her. She hadn’t received a single enquiry through it in almost a year.

What set her apart:

Laura stands for every woman’s right to choose where, how and with whom she gives birth.

She has a huge archive of real birth stories and photos, and a very personal way of working: she wanted her work to be seen, but without the rush and immediacy of social media.

She’d rather stay little known and keep doing her job.

The website had to reflect that: calm, close, and letting the women who had given birth with her do the talking.

What I did:

  • Goals and values session to define what the website had to convey
  • Web design built on her existing logo and colour palette, including typography
  • Content hierarchy: working from her copy, I decided what to highlight and chose the headlines
  • Layout of her photography, taken by professional photographers
  • 4 custom illustrations for her services (pregnancy, birth, postpartum and breech babies), drawn from her photos
  • WordPress site, designed and built so she could manage it herself
  • Urgent fixes to the old site while I designed the new one: email delivery, cookies and legal pages

The outcome:

A website that conveys Laura’s experience and the calm she works with. While it was still under construction, people were already emailing and calling to find out what was new.

It went live in August 2023 and, more than three years later, it’s still online with the design and illustrations I created.

In her words: “It’s big, spacious and beautiful. Very beautiful, to my taste.” (translated from Spanish)

The mission was already there. The brand wasn't.

If your centre has real work behind it and a brand that still doesn’t carry it, let’s talk.

Book a 15-minute call and let’s see if it’s a fit.
